Locate where you want to place your new downspout. This week i show you how to tackle installing gutters on your house on your own using materials you can pick up from a big box store. Measure from the gutter to the wall of the house and then from the gutter to the ground. Then attach an end cap with rivets and seal the joint from the inside with gutter sealant.

Turn the gutter over and cut the downspout hole using a 4 inch diameter hole saw chucked into a drill as shown. Where a gutter ends cut it to extend about an inch past the end of the fascia board to catch water from the overhanging shingles. Also lap the rain gutters so the inside section is facing downhill to prevent water from being forced out the seam. You can add a downspout to your gutters with little difficulty.

If your gutters overflow regularly during heavy rains you may want to consider adding an extra downspout. Drill a inch diameter hole through the center of the circular outline.
